How to transfer your archive file to your new computer

There are currently many ways to transfer your archive file to your new computer. These are:

1. Onto your local hard drive
2. Directly onto an external hard drive, USB device or file server
3. Burn it on CD or DVD
4. Directly to your new computer, via USB transfer cabel


1. Onto your local hard drive


This is the default choice in SoftRescue™. The archive file is default saved to your desktop with the name SRbackup.srp.

From here you can move it wherever you want.

 
2. Directly onto an external hard drive or USB device


In SoftRescue™ you can choose to save the archive file to an external hard drive or USB device.

This is done by plugging in the device before starting SoftRescue™. Then go to "Select Destination", and push "Browse", as shown below.

From here you can choose to save it on an external hard drive, USB drive or a file server.

 
3. Burn it on CD or DVD


This option requires alitle bit more work. This is because the archive file is normally much bigger then a CD or DVD. Included in your edition of SoftRescue™ there is a program called "Archive Split & join". With this program you can split the large archive files in more managable pieces.

First step is to choose the archive file you want to split. Then you choose the split size, CD or DVD pack. Then you push the "Split Arhive"-button.

When the process is finnished, you have to burn all the pieces onto CD's or DVD's. This is done by using your burning program of choice. i.e Nero Burning Rom.

On the new computer you have to join the pieces again, and this is done by using the same program, but this time you choose "Join Arhive" in the top menu. See picture below.

To join the archive you have to push "Browse..." to select the .mrg file. This is the join file for SoftRescue™ archives. Then you push the "Join Archive" to start the process. The join time depends on the archive size and the speed of your computer.

 
4. Directly to your new computer, via USB transfer cabel


USB transfer cabel comes with software and driver CD. Follow the instructions on how to use the cabel and connect two computers togheter.
